Botulinum toxin and fillers work differently
Botulinum toxin
Botox is a brand of botulinum toxin. It temporarily reduces activity in targeted muscles. Approved uses depend on the specific product and treatment area; approval for one use does not extend to every proposed use.
Dermal fillers
Fillers add volume beneath the skin. Products differ in composition and approved uses. Most effects are temporary, and repeat treatment may be needed to maintain a result.

What about jaw tension or a gummy smile?
Jaw pain needs a diagnosis before an injection is considered. NIDCR notes that botulinum toxin is not FDA-approved for temporomandibular disorders and that evidence for symptom relief is limited. It should not be presented as a proven cure for clenching or a replacement for evaluating its cause.
Uses such as changing upper-lip movement may also be off-label. Ask whether the proposed use is approved, what evidence supports it, and what alternatives could address the concern.

Before treatment
Discuss your health, medications, allergies, previous injections, and any pregnancy or breastfeeding. Ask about the product, expected effect, follow-up, and how complications would be managed.
Possible complications
Bruising, swelling, and tenderness can occur. Fillers can rarely block a blood vessel, causing serious tissue injury or vision problems. Botulinum toxin carries warnings about serious effects including swallowing or breathing difficulties.
Get immediate medical help for breathing or swallowing difficulty, vision changes, or other severe symptoms after treatment. Contact the treating clinician promptly with concerns; do not assume an unexpected symptom is routine.

The product, amount used, treatment areas, and follow-up needs affect the fee. Ask for a specific plan rather than comparing only a price per unit or syringe.
